Professor Steve Kempster
Professor Steve Kempster is Emeritus Professor of Leadership Learning and Development at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS).
Steve first qualified as a chartered surveyor and founded his own surveying practice specialising in residential and commercial development.
His second career commenced with a position at Lancaster University to help form the entrepreneurship group in the Management School.
He has published broadly on leadership learning, leadership of purpose and responsible leadership with 5 books, and many articles and chapters. Steve leads the Good Dividends project (www.gooddividends.com) – formed from an interdisciplinary group of academics drawn from 5 universities in Europe and Australasia – with the objective of enabling business leaders to develop their business models towards becoming regenerative and realising good growth.
The ideas of the project were published in his book ‘Good Dividends: Responsible leadership of business purpose’.
Recently, Steve has been the Director of the Lancaster University Made Smarter and Evolve Digital programmes linking digitalisation with regenerative outcomes – funded by the UK Government.
He is currently co-director of the Lancaster University ‘Good Growth’ Programme – focused on reframing growth towards regenerative outcomes and building towards a wellbeing economy.
Steve is a member of the Anchor Organisations Procurement Group for the Morecambe Bay area helping to shape policy and intervention to build community wealth.
